The more I work with people the more I’ve come to realise how important it is that we feel in control of what’s going on in and around us.
Those that have the greatest sense of control in their lives are those that appear the most successful and content.
The sense of control can even be an illusion and it’s still good enough to boost wellbeing. This would be termed by most as the positive outlook on life.
The sense of control, even as illusion has great merit and can be bolstered in various practical ways. It is in practice a learnt skill.
We learn through lived experience, what we read, hear and see. It is essentially how we educate ourselves. How we also take notice of what we’ve learnt, rather than being unaware.
This is were thoughtfulness/mindfulness comes into play. By increasing your awareness of what you know and are actually capable of allows you to feel more in control.
Life is a pretty random environment to live in. Most of life’s events are unpredictable and this causes a great deal of difficulty for a great number of people.
Learning to accept and then work with this randomness is another key skill to feeling in control.
When you accept the random nature of life, yet feel equipped to tackle it, then you’ll truly feel in control of your life.
There’s more to follow on this thread in the coming weeks…
