Well, I would say that I turned 40 at the start of this week. Happy birthday to me!
What it does highlight is how we view our lives. This is classic “mid life crisis” time, and fortunately for me, I’ve avoided it as I’m happy where life is right now. I see more and more people come in to work with me who are struggling with life and not reaching expectations.
This is often happening in those who are 25 to 35, let alone those older. The not reaching expectations is the key to this. The answer lies in finding out where those expectations come from. Are they really your hopes, dreams and goals? Or are they other peoples (family, friends, society)?
If you can spend the majority of your life doing things you really enjoy, you’ve cracked life. If you can do those things without worrying what others think, you’ve really cracked it. I’ll say to anyone, as long as you’re not causing harm to others, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing. Be considerate to those around you, then just follow what feels good. Do a little less thinking and a little more doing, be guided by what you’re feeling. It’s amazing how colourful life can be, even when only doing the small things. Don’t let things hold you back, just give life a good go.
