It doesn’t matter what medium you use, voice, text or video. What is vital is that you share your thoughts and ideas.
In every aspect of life we often hope other people will just “get” what we mean. That they’ll understand us without us having to share anything.
We have a myth that if these people really know us, they’ll just intuit what we’re feeling and thinking.
This isn’t the case.
It never fails to intrigue me in the work that I do, that people often don’t think they need to really tell other people exactly what they think and feel.
Often when people perceive that ideas are too difficult, personal or might lead to conflict they consciously won’t share them either.
Combine these two approaches and it’s not surprising we so often misunderstand each other.
The good news is that this is easy to remedy.
You need to make a conscious effort to share your thoughts and feelings.
Make it a learned skill.
You can learn ways to communicate effectively, in all situations.
This will lead you to feel heard and understood. Allow you to share ideas and feelings. To feel an additional level of control in your life.
To be truly understood and acknowledged (and vice versa) is empowering.
